Pythons are viewed as embodiments of spirits by some followers of the Vodun (Voodoo) religion. Hence Ouidah has a Python Temple where pythons are bred and cared for, with a life-size painted wooden sculpture in front. Members of our group got to hold a python, supervised by one of their keepers. Afterwards, we looked through the temple shop.
