Fire Dance

In the evening of March 15 we went to Sokode, the second largest city in Togo, for a fire dance by members of the Tem people. To the accompaniment of constant, vigorous drumming, men pass flaming sticks over their arms and legs, eat burning coals, and do similar amazing things. How they do it without apparent pain or damage is unknown.
