Archeological Museum of Tonina

Exuberant use of colors on the museum building, whiich was fairly standard on the inside.

Leaving the museum after about two hours: Group Leader Haydee de Hoyos in red shirt, Local Expert Luis Nunez in hat.

Some interesting sights as we began our morning bus ride, starting with this amazing tree near the hotel parking lot where we will board our bus.

Misol-Ha Waterfall

The second waterfall had greater height than Cascada de Agua Azul, but less volume. But you could walk behind it, and together they made a nice pair.

Cascadas de Agua Azul

Our first waterfall, Cascadas de Agua Azul (Cascades of Blue Water) was approached via the shops in the previous post. It was more a mountain river flowing downhill over the rocks, than a dramatic cataract, but impressive nonetheless.

Palenque Waterfalls

Returning to our Chiapas, Mexico trip with Road Scholar: On February 23 our bus took us to two waterfalls, first Cascada de Agua Azul and then Misol-Ha. Of course, before encountering the first cascade we had to traverse a gauntlet of shops, which is how the natives make their living from the tourists coming for the scenic attractions. Fortunately, they were not at all annoyingly aggressive in offering their wares. And the sanitarios were handy.

Palenque Archeological Site (4)

A rich site attracts wealthy tourists. who attract vendors of souvenirs. On the left is our "local expert", Luis Nunez, who really was an expert in Chiapas history and culture.
