Palenque Archeological Site (1)

"Mayan architecture is famous for its stepped pyramids, palaces, observatories, and elaborate ceremonial complexes. Aztec architecture also featured pyramids, but they are distinguished by their massive size and twin temples at the top, as seen in the Templo Mayor." (1)

 Up to this time in our travels, we've mainly visited Aztec sites in northern and central Mexico. The contrast with this Aztec site in southern Mexico is striking. There are many interesting web sites describing various aspects of these two great civilizations. Start with this one:
