As part of our August 9 excursion we went ashore at a village that had a ritual area distinguished by vertical carved pillars, somewhat like unpainted totem poles. We had not seen this at other villages, though other features - serious/playful kids, elaborate spirit houses, and good-looking, decorated men - were part of the common culture of this area.
