Kata Tjuta

In the afternoon we visited the other half of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. In contrast to the monolithic, fine sandstone structure of Uluru, Kata Tjuta is a series of domes made of rough conglomerate. For the Aborigines, it was a place restricted to initiated men. However, we were able to walk among the domes (only 7K steps this afternoon, for a total of 25K today).

Our guide diagramming the formation of Kata Tjuta.

The combination of orange-red rock and green vegetation in horizontal lines made some striking pictures, reminding me of Mark Rothko's paintings.
