Exploring Paro (Part 2)

We are finally in a hotel in Bhutan (in Wangdue) that has fast internet, so I can resume posting.

Friday, September 11

View of the compact, pretty town of Paro along the river

Chilis - an important part of Bhutanese cooking - drying on the roof of a farm shed, seen from a hill near the National Museum

Elaborate balconies surround the courtyard of the Rinpung Dzong, a former fortress turned administrative center

Three scenes from the ruined fortress of Drukyel Dzong, at the head of the Paro Valley

To end the afternoon we visited the house of the family of our van driver, Kinga Tshering, a very pleasant fellow.

The driver's grandmother, showing the traditional wood-burning stove in the kitchen. The house is in the process of being considerably modernized.

A rice field belonging to the family. Some of the rice (the center section) has just been harvested.
