In the Mountains near Srinagar

Today we drove about 50 km north of Srinigar to the mountainous site of the ancient ruins of Naranag, a set of temples dedicated to Lord Shiva in the 8th C.

The main temple, overlooking a dramatic valley

One of the temples contains a lingam.

Gathering water and washing pots in an old stone cistern

View down the valley near a rocky stream, where we had lunch

After lunch we visited several school classrooms.

On our way back, the terraced yellow rice fields glowed in the afternoon light.

This was the late afternoon view from the roof of our houseboat across Dal Lake.

After dinner we had a concert by local musicians playing a singing a Sufi epic.

Note: We will probably not have internet access for the next couple of days.
