Blustery Day on the Chukotka Coast

Day 3: 2016-09-14

Our third night and day was marked by rough seas and some seasickness. After two lectures in the morning (one on birds and the other on the history of the region of Chutkotka), things calmed down a little and we went out on the zodiacs into Bukhta (Bay) Gavriila (named after Bering's ship the St. Gabriel ). The ride was cold, wet, but fun. We could not land because of the sea conditions, but we saw three bears on the shore, a bunch of seals in the water (who kept popping up for a few seconds in unexpected places), many sea birds, and a beautifully colored glacial valley.
