Color vs Black and White #1: Overpass with Tent Camp

When I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2014, I worked on a project of photographing scenes in my new neighborhood (The Pearl District) in the style of Robert Frank's "The Americans" and Walker Evans's "American Photographs", roughly the same number of photos and all in black and white. I liked the result, and made it into a Blurb book, but then turned my efforts to color.

Lightroom Classic makes it very easy to convert from color to black and white, and provides many presets to experiment with. I particularly like "C&V B+W One Click Looks 420", and so I thought I would experiment with applying that preset to some of my more recent color photos in Portland, and present them next to each other, with no other post-processing. That's what will be appearing on this blog for the next several weeks.
