Forest Park Last Year (1)

I came across some early summer 2018 photos from Portland's Forest Park, that I had not gotten around to posting. Better a year late than never! Hence a couple each day for a week.

Portland Saturday Market

Portland Saturday Market (not to be confused with Portland Farmers Market) "is an outdoor arts and crafts market in Portland, Oregon. It is the largest continuously operated outdoor market in the United States." (Wikipedia). It's colorful, but I like the traditional street photography black and white look. I'll be posting some photos from a recent visit over the next several days.

Some French Things

Adding to the French-ness of the Bastille Day celebration: a miniature poodle, a dress and hair with the colors of the French flag, a couple of Citroen 2CVs, and a bunch of Perriers.

Food at the Bastille Day Celebration

Several of the French-related Portland eateries had booths at the celebration, and there was a nice table where friends had gotten together for a lunch en plein aire.

Bastille Day in the Pearl District

Back to Portland in this blog, after our brief vacation in the Olympic Peninsula. We live near Jamison Square in the Pearl District, and on July 13 were pleasantly surprised to see a Bastille Day celebration taking place in the park. (Surprised both because Bastille Day is July 14, and because the Pearl District is not notably French.) However, it was a delightful event, and I got some photos that capture the occasion, which I'll post over the next few days.

Jamison Square is one of a north-south string of parks in the Pearl, and its distinguishing feature is a fountain intended to simulate a shallow tide pool. Kids and some adults were having fun splashing and cooling off on a warm day, while others just relaxed and watched the fun.

Madison Creek Falls

The last site we were able to visit on our brief visit to the Olympic National Park was Madison Creek Falls, at the Elwha River entrance to the park, about half an hour drive from Port Angeles. Much of the trail was blocked by a landslide, but we were pleased with what we were able to see. A nice conclusion to a good trip.

Ediz Hook

According to Wikipedia, "Ediz Hook is a 3-mile-long sand spit that extends from northern shore of the Olympic Peninsula at Port Angeles in northcentral Clallam County, Washington, USA, northeasterly into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, located about 15-mile west of the larger Dungeness Spit." The shipping harbor of Port Angeles lies at the base of the spit, and (as the last photo shows) the harbor pilots set out from here to board the container vessels that they will guide into port.

The weather, which up to now had been bright and sunny, turned rainy and foggy, which enhanced the atmosphere of the Hook and nearly obscured the container ship in the third photo.

Restaurant in a Garden

After the lavender farm we went for lunch in Sequim to Nourish, which characterizes itself as a "Warm, tranquil eatery featuring a menu of organic & gluten-free meals sourced from an on-site farm". What its web site doesn't tell you is that it's embedded in a beautiful garden with some interesting sculpture.
