Esna and Our Dahabiya

Conclusion of Day 5 of our tour (October 13).  We drove from the Valley of the Kings to the town of Esna, which features the Greco-Roman Temple of Khnum. Taken in town, the first photo seems a little reminiscent of the mood of the carving just below it, from a bas relief on the exterior wall of the Temple.

The main attraction here is the Great Hypostyle Hall, with its closely-spaced, massive columns that still bear traces of the original paint, now being restored.

After the Temple we drove to the Esna harbor and boarded our private dahabiya, the Lazuli III-L'Orient, which will be our (very comfortable) home for the next five nights. The sunset over the Nile was a lovely greeting.
