Keeping Portland Weird

Portland Farmers' Market

We go to the Portland Farmers' Market at Portland State University nearly every Saturday. It's a good walk, a great source of food, and a colorful scene. I've been accumulating a fair number of photos that I feel capture the vividness and energy of the scene. Here are some from last Saturday.

Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge

"Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge is a city park of about 141 acres in southeast Portland. Located in a floodplain along the east bank of the Willamette River near Sellwood, the park is known for attracting a wide variety of birds. In 1988, the park was named Portland's first wildlife refuge, and in 2004, it was designated the city's first migratory bird park." (Wikipedia)

We weren't looking for birds, and we didn't see any. But the day was warm and comfortable, and the scenery was lovely.

Old Balcony with Pigeon

An old, weathered building near the west on-ramp to the Steel Bridge in Portland. A nice example of aged shapes, colors, and textures.

Food Cart

There are hundreds of food carts in Portland, Oregon. One of the biggest clusters is downtown around the intersection of Alder and 10th. Here are a few scenes.

Summer Evening by the River

It cooled off a bit in Portland yesterday, so a sundown stroll along the Willamette River was very pleasant. A couple of very different photos here, but both pleasing - at least to me.

Portland Farmers' Market

We've been back in Portland for a couple of weeks, and now that I've run through my England photos, it's time to show some of the happenings in our home town. Here's a selection from yesterday at the Farmer's Market, one of Portland's best things.

Front and Back

We spent a day in London on our way back from Cornwall and Coventry. Much of the day was spent in the Victoria and Albert Museum, one of our favorites. Entering a Renaissance gallery we encountered this sculpture. Walking around to the back, we got a surprise.

Bucolic Coventry

The conference was at a hotel in a fairly distant, not very interesting suburb of Coventry. But I discovered a pleasant large park, with a walking path, about a mile from the hotel. A suitable end to the photos from Coventry.
