We ended our South Pacific voyage in Tahiti by engaging a Tours By Locals guide to take us on a day-long tour of the island. I didn't keep track of the names of locations, though all were picturesque, so I will devote the next few posts to showing the best scenes from that day in roughly chronological order.

Hotel Fish Ponds

The Intercontinental has several fish ponds, with relatively clear water and size suitable for accommodating various species of photogenic fish.

Tahiti Hotel

We ended our South Pacific expedition/cruise on the island of Tahiti in Papeete, the capitol of French Polynesia. We enjoyed a stay at the Intercontinental Hotel, with scenery to match the rest of our trip.

 An archipelago of great beauty, the second largest of the Tuamoto Atolls.

Music-Making on Manihi

Safely removed from the crabs, local musicians and visitors gathered on the seashore for music-making and refreshments.

Manihi Beach with Crabs

After the dance celebration at the Manihi pier, we loaded into buses to go the sandy beach area. It was attractively undeveloped, but a close inspection disclosed that the sand was densely occupied by sand crabs. Look closely at the last two photos.
