Souq Waqif in Doha

Our hotel was in the Souq Waqif area in Doha. Assording to Wikipedia, "Souq Waqif is a marketplace in Doha, in the state of Qatar. The souq sells traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to restaurants and shisha lounges. The original building dates back to the late 19th to early 20th centuries in a traditional Qatari architectural style."

Our hotel was one of three quite nice buildings scattered through the Souq, one of which served breakfast. Here's Elsa in the corridor next to our room.

Qatari men tend to wear white robes, and are fond of animals, especially horses and camels.

They are also avid falconers, and a famous falcon hospital is located in the Souk. (These birds may just be hooded for sleep.)

And, of course, normal activities for locals and tourists go on in this lively neighborhood close to the water.
