First Day in Mexico City

Beginning in mid-April, my wife and I spent ten days in Mexico City on a Road Scholar tour with 19 other "scholars". (The official tour was a week, but we arrived a day early and stayed two days after.) Mexico City is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with more than 27 million inhabitants, and its size, history, and diversity make it a marvelous place for photography. For the next month, I'll be posting photos of the various places we visited, either with the group or on our own.

We arrived a day before the start of the tour, and checked into our hotel which was just a few blocks from the Zocalo, the common name of the main square in central Mexico City. A great location for some exploratory photography, starting with the striking mix of modern and historic buildings.
