Lisbon at Night

We returned a couple of days ago from a ten day long trip to Portugal. We started in Lisbon, took a day trip to Sintra and Cascais, were driven to Coimbra with stops at Obidos, Batalha, and Tomar along the way, took a train from Coimbra to Porto, and finished with a day trip in the Douro Valley countryside. The weather was excellent, the city and country were attractive, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the whole trip was very enjoyable. We'd like to go back soon.

For the next several weeks I'll be posting photos from this trip, before returning to my series on Portland's Pearl District.

Up first, three photos of Lisbon at night, showing the elaborate tilework — covered by fallen leaves after a rain — on the center promenade of the Avenida da Liberdade, the atmospheric darkness and light of a narrow side street, and the shadows and lights on some architectural decorations.
