Hard and Soft

One of the things I find intriguing about Portland's Pearl District is the juxtaposition of hard, gritty concrete and iron with soft grasses and flowers, both cultivated and growing wild. Here are two photos at the same apartment building, one with the support structures of the Fremont Bridge in the background and a freight train passing by, the other with wild grasses in front of the building courtyard.
