Bijagos Archipelago - Guinea-Bissau

Sailing north from Sierra Leone along the West African coast, we arrived at the island and city of Bolama, one of the 88 islands of the Bijagos Archipelago. The city of Bolama was once the capitol of Guinea-Bissau, but the capitol was changed to Bissau in 1941because of a shortage of fresh water. (From Silversea Daily Chronicles).

We disembarked from the ship to Bolama in the early afternoon and spent the time wandering the old city streets and being treated to a lively dance performance. These events will take up this and the following four posts.
