August 31. Uluwatu Temple is a Balinese Hindu sea temple perched atop a steep cliff approximately 70 meters above sea level. The juxtaposition of sea, cliff, flowers, and temple buildings is beautiful; but the harshness of the cliff face and the austere concrete walls guarded by barbed wire perhaps suggests a closer connection to the fearsome statue of the god at the top.
