Modern Architecture in Tirana, Albania

Contemporary Albania came as a great - and very pleasant - surprise to the members of our tour. Albania had a reputation, among most of us oldsters, akin to that of North Korea: a repressive, isolated, communist dictatorship commanded by a brutal tyrant. This was, in fact, true from the end of WW2 to about 1990. But now the country seems modern and prosperous. This is exemplified by the modern architecture in its capital city, Tirana.
