On August 16, about a dozen of the tribes that would participate in the Cultural Show the next day did a pre-show at Rondon Ridge. Those of us staying at the Lodge were privileged to view the preparations and the rehearsals, and to interact with the performers. In this first of three posts today, I present photos of performers getting ready by donning costumes and makeup.
An interesting aspect of this experience was that, although the Papua New Guinea tribes have a rather fearsome reputation for violence and inter-tribal warfare, the people we interacted with were friendly and obliging.
