 Sao Nicolau is perhaps the most beautiful, and most varied, of the Cape Verde islands. I'll be posting a plentiful selection of images for the next week or so.

Despite the almost complete cover with volcanic rock only a decade ago, Fogo residents have reestablished their homes (see settlement in the distance at the base of the mountain) and resumed growing grapes.

Fogo's name goes back to the volcanic activity of its dominant feature Pico do Fogo (below) ... which last erupted in 2014-15 and still today emits Sulfur vapor through its fumaroles."

 While the Silver Wind was docked in Dakar, local vendors set up shop on the dock, across from the ship.
