Located in the mountains about three hours drive from Tabriz, the Monastery of St. Stephanos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and evidence of the long history of Christianity in this part of Iran. It is a popular site for visits and picnics, but remains a place of pilgrimage.
Typical scenery in much of Iran: flat plains with abruptly rising mountains, all dry.
Our group walking from the parking lot to the monastery.
