From the MIR brochure: "Built in 1465, the historic Blue Mosque is so-called because of the intricate mosaics made from blue tiles on the facade of the building." It was damaged in a 1778 earthquake, ordered restored in 1940, and partially renovated in 1975, standing as a monument to early Persian culture.
