Spon Street in Coventry is a short block of medieval buildings that have been moved here, refurbished on the inside, and occupied by small modern shops and services. I was intrigued, but found the place disappointing. At one end of the street is an entrance to the subway, with posters that try to give a flavor of the place that used to be.
Coventry, thanks to its reconstruction after WW2 bombing, has the first all-pedestrian shopping area in England. Most of it is standard modern shopping mall architecture, but Coventry Market is somewhat reminiscent of indigenous markets in Asia and Africa.
