Our next to last day of exploring the Big Island, we drove south along the east coast to the area where the recent lava flows had occurred. We stopped first at Lava Tree State Monument, where the lava had engulfed and mummified many trees. There were also many beautiful plants arrayed against the lava, and we'll start with those.
