May 13 (Part 2): Having completed our hike, we drove in our bus to the wine town of Maduria, where we visited the Primitivo di Maduria, a large complex of winery and wine museum that processes the Primitivo grape (a cousin to Zinfandel) for 400 member-growers. Good wine, accompanying a tasty lunch, and an interesting visit.
Lots of huge steel aging tanks, for lots of wine
In the museum, old wine vessels
Recreation of a winery workshop, with pin-ups
Hand-driven wine press
Filling multi-liter bottles from gasoline-like pumps, for local consumers
