First Views of Bumthang

Saturday, September 12

We flew in the morning from Paro to Bumthang, a district in central Bhutan. To our pleasant surprise, the flight was diverted to the south to accommodate the Prime Minister and his entourage, who shared our small plane. We arrived in Bumthang a little later than planned, but with a good story to tell.

The Kenchosum Monastery is in the process of being remodeled. The ornate ceiling of the temple was complete in places, and we were lucky to see the sculptures being moved into place.

Lines of chortens (stupas) like this were seen throughout our trip.
