The morning before driving to Sapporo, we spent some time exploring the grounds and surroundings of our hotel, the La Vista Daisetsuzan. It's at the base of Asahidake Mountain, with a rope line (which we didn't take) to accommodate winter skiing. Very pleasant, unspoiled scenery.
We saw many of these striking large-leafed (2 feet across) plants, but this was the only one with no insect holes and hosting a dragonfly.
Along the road leading up to the hotel
Pond in the back yard of the hotel, visible from our room
Fence of reused wood in the back of the hotel. The scars reminded me of Japanese calligraphy.
