Our next stop on the drive north from Lisbon was Batalha Monastery. According to Wikipedia, "It is one of the best and original examples of Late Gothic architecture in Portugal, intermingled with the Manueline style." The building is large and impressive, the stone carving is wonderful, and the light shining through the stained glass windows casts a striking glow.
