Carpet Museum of Iran

Iran is deservedly famous for its carpets, so we were delighted that one of our Tehran stops was the Carpet Museum of Iran. It displays carpets with complex geometric and formal motifs, but also a wider variety: some realistic, some nature themes, and some humorous.

Tehran Street Market

Returning from the Golestan Palace in the late morning, we rode our bus along one of the downtown streets which functions as a market, or bazaar, for heavy goods. It seems as if every square inch of street, sidewalk, doorway, or alley is pressed into service. Great for street photography!

 On our first full day of sightseeing in Tehran, we drove by bus to Golestan Palace. From the MIR guide, "Golestan Palace is the oldest of Tehran's historic monuments, begun in the 16th century as a fortress by the Safavid Dynasty. Encompassing several palatial buildings around a cool green garden, the complex includes the Marble Throne, created from 65 pieces of yellow Yazd marble."
