On our way to the Gulbenkian Museum, we walked up the Avenida da Liberdade to the traffic circle featuring a huge statue of the Marquis de Pombal (who directed the reconstruction of Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake) and then further up the hill into the Edward VII Park, which afforded a fine distant view of the mouth of the Tagus River near where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
