A break from Italy ...
Yesterday we hiked up to the International Rose Test Garden in Portland's Washington Park. This is Rose Festival week in Portland, and the Garden's roses were perfectly timed to be in full bloom. The effect was rather overwhelming, as these photos are intended to show. It was a bright, sunny day, with high contrast light that made photography of individual roses very difficult - though it did emphasize the vividness of the scene. Fortunately, there were some patches of shade.

Although there were individual blossoms, I was struck by the proportion of plants that had numerous blossoms bunched together, almost like a bouquet all in one plant.
Finally, a single perfect rose!
