Mobile Tent Camp

July 20, 2018. This was also a day to take some photos of our mobile tent camp.

A typical tent, with room to sleep three inside, chemical toilet in a separate space behind, and canvas sinks out front.

Chobe Afternoon Game Drive and Sunset

July 20, 2018. In midafternoon, after the usual hearty lunch, we set out on another drive, this time along the Chobe River. We saw zebras dead and alive, yellow-billed storks, and a hippo looking at us suspiciously. Also a spectacular sunset reflected in the river.

Chobe Morning Game Drive

July 20, 2018. Two game drives today in Chobe National Park, one of Africa's prime game-viewing areas. First the morning drive, on which we didn't see any of the Big Five, but did see lots of attractive smaller animals and birds, as well as an impressive elephant skull and a baboon courtship. I also enjoyed the visual interplay of the fauna with the colors and gestures of the vegetation. In chronological order throughout the morning:

Baby Elephant and Sable Antelope

July 19, 2018. After the Chobe River safari, we boarded Land Cruisers for the drive to our mobile tented camp, located just outside of Chobe National Park. Along the way we had two notable sightings.

Big Herbivores in the River Grasses

July 19, 2018. The Chobe River is shallow at this place and time of year, and the river grasses provide attractive nourishment for the big herbivores: elephants, hippos, and Cape buffalos.
