Crater Lake

After an overnight in Bend, we drove down to Crater Lake. Its vivid blue waters are truly amazing, as are the cliffs surrounding it. There's a big island (the result of another volcanic eruption) near the middle of the lake, and a tiny one called Phantom Ship, sort of hidden away though visible from one of the lookouts.

The violinist is 9 years old, the keyboard player is 11. They were both good!

Floating Down the Deschutes

The Deschutes River runs right below our hotel in the Old Mill District of Bend. It was a nice afternoon for all creatures.

Bend-ing

Yesterday we drove from Portland to Bend, on our way to Crater Lake. We stayed in a hotel at the Old Mill District, whose most prominent feature is these three smokestacks.

Walking from town after dinner, I saw them reflected in two sheets of wavy store window.
