Jay Maisel says that the three things that make a good picture are light, color, and gesture. The various shades of greens, the different shapes and clusters, and the dappled forest sunlight make ferns exemplars of this dictum.
About a month ago we took advantage of the (finally!) warm and dry weather to hike in Portland's Forest Park. The forest was fresh and green, and I was particularly struck by the profusion of ferns. They'll serve as my subjects for the next several days.
After the austerity of my monochrome Studio Portraits, I feel like livening things up with some over-the-top "Impressive Art" special effects from my Panasonic Lumix ZS100. Here the effect is applied to some construction sites.
