Norton Simon Museum

The third LA art museum we visited on our Road Scholar program in February was the Norton Simon Museum. It's interesting that 3 of the 4 museums on this program are named after the (very wealthy) collectors, and only one (LACMA) is a "civic" museum. Compare to New York City, where the two most prominent museums are the Met and MOMA. Los Angeles is, in large measure, an embodiment of individual pride rather than civic contribution. Of course, we're grateful that wealthy individuals are willing to share their collections with us.
