Jahangira Island Temple

January 31, 2017: We had been scheduled to go to the temple on Jahangira Island yesterday, but fog and sand bars delayed us until this morning. It was worth the wait. The temple has very fine bas relief sculptures along its helical steps, and colorful scenes along the way.

The temple shrouded in morning fog

Bathers along the ghat

Containers for water offered to the gods

Beggars along the approach to the temple

Offering water to the gods

Shiva(?) as a lion, killing a Buddhist god

Gods at play

Pilgrims, tourists, or both

Agriculture on the river bank downstream of the island

Oxen to pull a heavy load of rice straw

Impressive bridge crossing the river
