Bonn and Beethoven

July 12: I began the day with a long walk in the big Freizeit park near our hotel (the Maritim) in Bonn. It extends to the Rhine River, with a curious but useful mix of well-trimmed recreational areas and wild sections. Here are a couple of photos of the wild stuff.

Then a tram ride into central Bonn, All which is a mix of medieval town planning and contemporary mall shops. And lots of bicycles.

I stopped in one church did had monochrome "stained" glass windows. Quite effective in a modernist sort of way. A close-up of the small area of color shows some rather strange figures.

The Cathedral what running a "Before I ... the" disclosure invitation on some big black boards. I Wondered what this little girl thought.

Beethoven was born in Bonn, and the house where hey was born has been turned into the Beethoven-Haus museum. No photos are allowed in the house, but there are some evocative busts in the courtyard, and of course the shop is lively and colorful. It was heartening to see so many young people interested in serious classical music.
